My heart goes out to Teresa and family I recently lost my Mother and it can be a very difficult time. I spent some time at your parents summer holiday retreat many years ago and was introduce by Kevin Coddington to your Mother and Father. I remember sitting in the lake on lawn chairs it was so fun and what a hot weekend it was. Kevin said your father was such a good person who loved people and I saw that in him as well.

I always remember that night when he came out of the lake at your trailer, roaring like a huge bear (and a big teddy bear he was), scaring us girls so much! He was a great cook along with his helpers for any LA function we had of course he always had a secret ingredient which he never would divulge! We remember John doing one of our last dinners and was not feeling well but he insisted he was ok & continued on with still a smile on his face. Marg this was the day you had to help him with the groceries as John was not able! To the Dunn family - our condolences. John was such a contributor to our town in so many way. All the things he did will not be forgotten by all the people's lives he touched. My greatest memory will be Santa waving hi to our family and wishing us a Merry Christmas and adding our names. To see our children's eyes light up knowing that Santa knew their names and ours was something that will always be remembered. I just heard of the passing of John. I remember him as a big bear who had a very soft heart, he always had a smile and a great laugh. John you will be dearly missed by the community. I remember you as a ball player ,who I played with when I was a very young man, I admired you as a person way back when ,the same as I do to this day. Johnny were 12 or 13 and for quite a few summers I would spend a couple of weeks with my cousin Johnny Dunn in Acton and he would spend a couple of weeks with me in Oshawa.

This story took place in Oshawa one summer and my mom, Irma, was in need of a loaf of bread for supper so we were sent to Johnny’s Grill (no relationship) at the lake to pick up a loaf. We picked up the loaf and decided to take a short cut through the coal piles on the return trip. I was in Navy League cadets at the time of the story and wanted to show Johnny the Cutters that we rowed. They were docked at the wood break wall that separated the harbour from the Oshawa Creek. This break wall was made of 10 x 10 wood pylons and to reach the cutters you needed to walk on the tops of the pylons. Johnny was carrying the bread and on the way back he slipped and fell in the harbour side. He immediately raised the bread into the air as he sputtered and splashed one handed to the shore, but it was too late the bread was as soaked as Johnny was. We could not stop laughing at our misfortune as Johnny sloshed home. We tried to come up with a tall tale to tell my folks, but finally decided that truth sounded like fabrication enough. My penalty was to fetch another loaf while Johnny was scolded.

This exploit should not keep him from entering heaven. We will miss you John.
